Background
The Canterbury
Shield is a four-division
competition involving most of the National League Rugby
Teams. Obviously, since Rugby is a very
masculine sport, this is a fantastic opportunity to promote male oriented
products. As a result, Canterbury
of New Zealand has improved sales by using the Shield as
a stage to promote its own products.
Membership and Demographics
The Shield itself has 39 Clubs, 47 teams , playing numbers now approaching 1000 and supporting playing memberships of around 7500 .
The matches are played throughout the rugby season September until April . All clubs are well sponsored individually and
demographically sited across the south of England.
It is our aim to continue to
take applications from clubs who are keen to play in such a high-calibre
competition and grow the divisions accordingly.
We also have 7-a-side tournaments sponsored annually,
which has proven to be exceptionally successful
(Sevens is such a growing and action-packed game).
